The Lymphatic System and Immunity

چکیده
The lymphatic system consists of a fluid, lymph, a network of lymphatic vessels, specialized cells called lymphocytes, and an array of lymphoid tissues and lymphoid organs scattered throughout the body. This system has three major functions: (1) to protect the body through the immune response; (2) to transport fluid from the interstitial fluid to the bloodstream; and (3) to help distribute hormones and nutrients, and transport waste. The immune response produced by activated lymphocytes is responsible for the detection and destruction of foreign or toxic substances that may disrupt homeostasis. For example, viruses, bacteria, and tumor cells are usually recognized and eliminated by cells of the lymphatic system. Immunity is the specific resistance to disease, and all of the cells and tissues involved with the production of immunity are sometimes considered to be part of an immune system. Whereas the lymphatic system is an anatomically distinct system, the immune system is a physiological system that includes the lymphatic system as well as components of the integumentary, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, and other systems.

In work on Wistar rats with experimental crush syndrome and acute alcohol intoxication shown that alterations of «metabolic profile» are stipulated by the lymphatic system, which emerges as an active component to urgent adaptation in critical situations. It is shown by the expressed infringements of an exchange of electrolytes in plasma. lymph and myocardium at the rats, that can make a part of...
متن کاملDiagnosis of Lymphatic and Immune Disorders
The lymphatic and immune systems work together to detect and destroy foreign substances and microorganisms that may disturb homeostasis. In addition, the lymphatic system aids the cardiovascular system in maintaining fluid balance. Disorders of the lymphatic system are therefore often associated with disorders of immunity and fluid balance. Such interactions must be kept in mind in the diagnosi...
متن کاملBidirectional Crosstalk between Lymphatic Endothelial Cell and T Cell and Its Implications in Tumor Immunity
Lymphatic vessels have been traditionally considered as passive transporters of fluid and lipids. However, it is apparent from recent literature that the function of lymphatic vessels is not only restricted to fluid balance homeostasis but also extends to regulation of immune cell trafficking, antigen presentation, tolerance, and immunity, all which may impact the progression of inflammatory re...

Background: In addition to determining the exact tumor location and its geometric features, an increase of the effective tumor atomic number will enhances the chance in treating the tumoral cells under suitable radiation. In the present study, we assessed metrezoate-labeled gallium transmission in Burkett lymphatic cells. Materials and Methods: Human Burkitt lymphatic cells were grown ...
